The 48-story, 660 foot 5th and Columbia Tower, now known as the F5 Tower, was the first project of my professional career. The faceted tower is clad in a unitized glass curtain wall and cantilevers over the adjacent lots to maximize usable floor area. Metal panels cover the steel lateral supports and define the edges of each faceted surface.

After completing construction documents in 2008, this project was put on-hold due to a global economic recession. After several years of inactivity, it was resurrected and underwent a significant redesign with a different design team. A number of interior and programmatic changes occurred, but the overall structure and enclosure remain. This occurred after my time at ZGF. The building eventually opened in 2018.

In addition to being a critical addition to Seattle’s evolving skyline, it is also an important adaptive reuse project, as it re-purposed the adjacent First United Methodist Church, from 1908, into a modern events space. That venue is currently known as The Sanctuary.
